TORONTO—At PurchasingB2B, we work closely with our partner associations to engage their members, which helps us provide quality industry information and to forge connections with our readers and suppliers. By attending and participating in industry events, we’re able to keep our finger on the pulse of issues affecting Canada’s procurement and supply chain practitioners. It also helps us to provide leadership in the procurement and supply chain management fields by sharing our expertise and supporting industry and association partners.
To that end, we’re pleased to be attending and reporting on the Cargo Logistics Canada Conference in Vancouver, January 29-30, 2014, as listed in our events section. PurchasingB2B editor Michael Power will also moderate a thought leadership panel sessions at the conference.
Safe Supply Chains: Mitigating the Risks of Global Outsourcing
Thursday January 30 • 10:30am-12:00pm
Cargo Logistics Canada, Vancouver Convention Center West
www.cargologisticscanada.com
Panel session description:
Supply chains have gotten both faster and longer in recent years and companies have become accustomed to using outsourcing for competitive advantage. By now, organizations have long sourced in China, and other Asian countries like Vietnam, India, Bangladesh and China have grown in popularity as sourcing destinations. Latin America and Eastern Europe are also increasingly common sourcing destinations.
But sourcing abroad or contracting outside workers involves both risks and rewards. Recent natural disasters, factory fires and controversy surrounding Canadian jobs outsourced overseas have highlighted the risks to an organization’s reputation, efficiency and bottom line.
This panel conversation will highlight steps organizations can take to mitigate the risks inherent in outsourcing, as well as discussing tools and resources available to deal with that risk. Procurement and supply chain professionals will provide best practices for outsourcing while looking at how to develop flexible and effective global sourcing strategies.
