TORONTO—The Supply Chain Management Association Ontario (SCMAO) annual conference takes place October 18-19 and the team at PurchasingB2B is looking forward to seeing you there. Publisher Dorothy Jakovina and editor Michael Power will attend the event at the Eaton Chelsea Hotel, and we encourage readers to drop by the PurchasingB2B booth to chat. While you’re there, be sure to fill out a ballot for your chance to win one of the two original paintings, as featured in the September issue of PurchasingB2B.
As well, PurchasingB2B will moderate a panel session at the event entitled Global Sourcing: Is Paper the New Gold? While often considered a low-engagement category, the process of sourcing paper is fraught with complexities. Global availability, price fluctuations and the choice between virgin and recycled fibres have consequences for the bottom line. A clear understanding of the issues affecting paper sourcing is essential for making informed decisions. The panel session will look at whether paper is on the road to surpassing commodities such as gold in terms of cost and value.
The session will also address the future global direction of paper and what it means for organizations that source it. Where the industry is headed, factors affecting cost, fibre types and availability of resources—along with how these factors affect the bottom line and where to find the ROI in paper sourcing—will be discussed.
The panel session takes place on Friday, October 18 from 10am to 10:45am, and a report on the session and conference will appear in the November/December 2013 issue of PurchasingB2B, which will feature a special focus on sustainability.
